How My Book's Characters Spoke to Me
Wednesday, April 9, 2025 by Ruth Harbour
Recently I have had the privilege to participate in a weeklong “Soul Journey” retreat with my husband Mark. This is the first of four retreats over the next eighteen months to learn how to be someone’s spiritual director within a small group setting. It is really all about drawing close to Jesus, and living life out of our relationship with him rather than being stuck in all that keeps us busy and the baggage and wounds which keep us from that loving relationship. I witnessed healing and deliverance for the other two ladies in my small group, as well as for myself.
So how did God speak to me? He actually brought to my attention the area he wants me to focus on while I was writing my book, Till the Rapture Do Us Part. There one character says to another as they meet each other in Heaven, “...your face looks as handsome as ever, but nobler. Does that come with living here for a while?” To which comes this reply, “...As for the nobler look, it comes with prayer.” Wow! I want that. I need that, I thought as I wrote it. And I brought this desire of my heart to become a better intercessor to my Sisters within the small group going on this Soul Journey together. The Lord has given me some action steps to grow in this area of prayer, and we have gotten started.
Aren’t you glad that God does not leave us the way he found us, but leads us to sanctification and a growing loving union with him through Jesus Christ?
