Destiny, Part 1
Wednesday, January 8, 2025 by Ruth P. Harbour

Wow, Destiny! That is a big topic, and something every person should be pursuing.  Perhaps to some of you, it does not figure into your daily life and thinking. Perhaps this has been in your thoughts for a long time; it has led you to formulate a life goal, like “To make the world a better place!”

But what kind of reputation will you leave behind?  The Bible says that a good name is a great inheritance to leave for your children.  Perhaps you will have accomplished great things in your area of expertise, and built  a fantastic financial empire. Perhaps you will have made new discoveries, and pioneered  a new discipline of study.  Perhaps you will have grown in so many ways--as a person, in creativity, and in your walk with God and with others.  Perhaps you will have established a family, and seen your children happily married and pursuing their own life goals. You will certainly experience ups and downs; that comes with being human.  But what kind of person will you become?  What name will you leave  behind?

This topic has been on my heart a long time.  I am a Christian,  which means I have experienced the before and after of a life with Jesus. I love the Bible, and consider  it God’s love-letter to me; it is my handbook for  doing life well, with the  help of the God of the Bible.  This is an  appeal to you--a person of worth--to withhold judgment  long enough to consider your God-given destiny. What is God’s big plan for all eternity?  My primary source is the Bible.  Hang on, as you may be beginning the biggest and most exciting adventure of your life.

GOD HAS PREPARED WORK FOR YOU TO DO

You were created for God’s glory. You love to create things because your Creator passed down His genes–or image–to you. You want to care for others, because God cares for them.  The Bible says, “God is love!” So you love!

Ephesians 2:10 states, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

So, as you explore life’s destiny and purpose for you, you need to get to know Christ.  You will find him in the Bible, and can hear him preached and taught at any Christian church. Or get together with your Christian friends to read it for yourselves. To know him is eternal life! Spend time with the greatest friend of all, Jesus. Then you will discover that the Lord who lives in your heart wants to use you to bless others! He knows exactly how you are wired–your strengths and weaknesses–and he gives his Holy Spirit to all who believe in him. With Christ you will do valiantly, and above all that you could imagine.  This is your destiny!

There is a New World coming!  And what we do in this  life will  influence our  eternal destiny. Let's take a closer look at this . . . NEXT TIME!
