Meet Our Sparrows: June
Wednesday, January 1, 2025 by Ruth P. Harbour

“Since we began studying the Bible together, the Word has come alive to me!  It used to be that I could not understand it, but now it speaks to me!” June, mother of five children ages eighteen to four, is one of the reasons I began the work of Sparrow’s House—a discipleship and craft-producing program for needy women which is a project of Taiwan Harvest 119 Caring Association.

On another occasion, June shared how the Lord taught her a lesson. She often takes advantage of a government sponsored thrift store to buy things for her family. One time she argued with a woman for a pot; people often vied for things already in the hands of others there at that store.  June insisted that the pot belonged to her, and said some nasty things to the other woman which she regretted. After she had the pot at home and enjoyed using it, she became proud of how she had been able to rescue it from the clutches of the other woman. Then one day as she carried it into the living room to poor up some hot water for herself and her children, one of the handles broke! The steaming water miraculously missed June and her children, and just dowsed the floor around her.  “Hallelujah!” she exclaimed! “God taught me not to be covetous and fight for things! Now if others want something I want, I let them have it! God has been so good to me, and is taking care of me and my family!”

June has suffered with anxiety and depression. She swings back and forth between taking medicine and not. The last job she had put her under pressure she had difficulty coping with. Sparrow’s House income has enabled June to provide for her family. She has also discovered that she is a gifted artist—as she has created greeting cards and designed jewelry and other crafts. But she feels it is time to step out in faith to find a job flexible enough to help her be free when her children need her.

So Sparrow’s House will walk with her as she seeks employment. Sparrow’s House is a project of Taiwan Harvest 119 Caring Association in Taiwan (which is a ministry supported by Global Outreach, International). One of our board members is knowledgeable about jobs available for the needy, and will be helping in this process.

“For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’” (Deut. 15:11)
