Aunt Betty’s Valentine’s Day
Monday, February 3, 2025 by Ruth P. Harbour

When our youngest of five was about six months old, our home was blessed by the presence and help of Aunt Betty Sullins.  Since I continued to reach out into the community through visitation ministry, Ladies’ Bible studies and such, Betty came to take care of our baby, our home and making cookies and evening meals. She wanted to test the waters of what it would be like to help a missionary family in this way, because she was just in the process of launching MISSIONNANNYS. She blessed us with her love and infectious laughter.

One thing that Betty left with us was her enthusiasm for making Valentine’s Day a very special family tradition.  Every member of the family had to write a Valentine’s card for every other member! The whole point of the day was to creatively encourage one another with loving words and humor.

So this year you can stock up on construction paper, markers, water colors, get out your scissors, tape and glue, and make time with the children to create their cards for one another. And, Aunt Betty style, be sure to cover your “mail box” with wrapping paper, leaving a slit for cards to be deposited in advance for the BIG DAY!

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, . .”
(Eph. 3:14-16)

“But encourage one another daily. . .”
(Heb. 3:13) NIV

Here’s an Aunt Betty Bible joke—What kind of man was Boaz before he married?

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!
