Accepted by God

“When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.”

They were prayers from the heart of a girl seventeen years old—prayers of surrender, whispers of love, songs of thanksgiving for God’s unconditional love. She had only recently been delivered from self-contempt; she had felt awkward, self-conscious about her physique; she mourned the fact that she said and did things in anger which she regretted. She had tried to change, but had no power to change. Then that Christmas Eve she cried out to Jesus to come into her heart and make her his child with a new life and a new beginning. He did come, and she experienced the joys of knowing him. And so she sought him in a quiet place, away from the distractions of home and homework. Just her and Jesus.

Suddenly glory filled her soul! It was electrifying, as pure love flooded her whole being, and she longed to love him more. Her heart exploded with love. She could not love him enough. His love set her free, and joy washed her through and through.

Now the seventeen-year-old is seventy. Getting to know God is still what drives her life; for her there is no greater joy than introducing him to others that they, too, might experience being accepted by the Beloved.

PRAYER: Sweet Lord Jesus, Thank you for dying for me while I was broken by sin and hopelessly lost. Thank you for reaching down and opening my heart to the truth of your death upon the cross in my behalf, and your glorious resurrection! Because you live, I will live forever! Help me to walk smartly, redeeming the time, that others might know you, too. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
