Are You Ready for What's Coming?

Categories: Are You Ready

Recently I watched CBN’s Billy Holloway’s interview with Anne Graham Lotz introducing her new book about Revelation--“The Vision of His Glory.” There she said, “There will be an end to human history as we know it.” Friends, if you know Jesus this statement brings peace and rejoicing even as the world spirals violently out of control. Charlie Kirk’s death attests to this, as thousands have found peace with God because of Charlie’s tragic passing. A new day is coming!

So how do we prepare for that New Day?

1. Make sure today that you are right with God. Confess your sins and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ. “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” (Rom 5:8)

“Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom 10:9)

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I Jn 1:9)

2. Keep your eyes on Jesus and his promises. There is no need to be afraid, because we serve a risen Savior. He is our soon-coming King of kings and Lord of lords!

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Prov 3:5-6)

“But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.” (Heb 2:9)

Since He died for us, we do not have to die. For Jesus promised—

“…I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (Jn 11:25-26)

3. Keep your ears open. Someday that trumpet blast shall sound and you will hear the Lord call your name, and you will ascend into the sky to be with Jesus and the saints! But while you live, make it your practice to listen for his still, small voice and to walk with him.

“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.” (I Thess 4:16-17)

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (Jn 10:27)

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. …If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. (Jn 15:5, 7-8)

4. Watch and pray. Even so Jesus admonished his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane in his greatest time of sorrow; there he affirmed with the Father that he would drink that cup of judgment on the cross in behalf of mankind. Now that the time approaches for him to establish his throne on the earth, the world is going through birth pangs which are increasing in frequency and severity. That is how we know he is coming soon. So daily watch what is going on around you and in the world news, and pray for what you see happening.

“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matt 26:41)

“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matt 24:42-44)

5. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. God is faithful to keep his promises. His promise to Abraham was that “through him all the nations of the earth will be blessed.”  His promise to David was that one of his sons will sit on his throne forever; Jesus is that Son! God has a plan for the nation of Israel, and for the city of Jerusalem. If we want to be ready for his coming, we need to pray for the Jewish nation.

“The LORD swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: ‘One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne. If your sons keep my covenant and my testimonies that I shall teach them, their sons also forever shall sit on your throne.’ For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place.” (Ps 132:11-13)

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! ‘May they be secure who love you!’” (Ps 122:6)

“It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, and many peoples shall come, and say: ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.’ For out of Zion shall go the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:2-4) Micah 4:1-3 is almost verbatim! So let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem…and the world!

“He who testifies of these things says, ‘Surely I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev 22:20)

6. Hasten his coming! As we live godly lives, and proclaim the Gospel to those around us, we are instruments of peace to prepare the way for the return of King Jesus. Even so, let us hasten his coming!

“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, …!” (II Pet 3:9-12)

“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nation, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’” (Matt 28:18-20)

There is a new day coming! How can we prepare? Practice these disciplines of life, and you will be ready for what’s coming—confess your sin and get right with God, keep your eyes on Jesus and his Word, keep your ears open for his voice (and the trumpet call of God!), watch and pray, pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and hasten his coming by living a godly life and sharing the Gospel.
